What does one trillion dollars look like?

All this talk about "stimulus packages" and "bailouts"... A billion dollars ... A hundred billion dollars ... Eight hundred billion dollars ... One trillion dollars ... Just words. Most people don’t have a conceptual appreciation of one trillion dollars … how could they?

To illustrate the point, let’s start with a $100 bill, currently the largest denomination bill in general circulation. Most everyone has seen one. I think we can agree that $100 bills are guaranteed to make friends wherever they go, even in foreign countries.

Do you know where your ankles are?

Barackbeard.jpg

Maybe you should look.

Last night, we watched (in my case with disappointment and dismay) as President Obama -- with Speaker Pelosi applauding loudly behind him -- rolled out literally hundreds-of-billions more in spending and tax increases. Did you see how many people in the congressional audience and the media were beside themselves in ecstasy, also cheering and applauding wildly?

It was like watching one of those horror movies where the bad guy keeps coming back ... a bad guy whose only goal is termination of America ... with even more scary big government programs that have failed the American people time after time, decade after decade. But who reads or learns history and economics anymore?

Congressional Motors

cm.JPG

It's in the way you dress, the way you boogie down, the way you sign your lifetime unemployment annuity check. You're a man or woman who likes to do things your own way.

And on those special odd-numbered Saturdays when driving is permitted, you want those special vibes from your car to turn you on when you turn it on. It's that personal feeling of a zero-emissions wind at your back and a road meandering ahead with remote possibilities. That’s the kind of feeling you get behind the wheel of the new Pelosi GTxi SS/Rt Sport Edition from Congressional Motors.

Trusting Saps

Hat tip for the video: Dave Amos

How did these comedians in 2007 see it coming when the financial reporters, bankers, and political hacks could not?

How is it that huge central banks and Wall Street intellects could not recognize one big casino when they were working in one? The reality is that Congress has taken your money, used it to engage in reckless socialist engineering - socialized housing (Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac), and mandated exorbitant risk taking by lending institutions. Now Congress wants you to cover the losses they’ve created. How can any reasonable person conclude otherwise? Where’s Congress's fiduciary responsibility to the American people? I suspect losing someone's money, and then raising their taxes to cover the losses, would not be considered exercising exemplary, let alone reasonable, fiduciary responsibility.

Redistribution Has Just Begun

IRS form.JPG

Liberals embrace socialist “ideologies.” Ideologies are a collection of ideas, or a systematic body of concepts about human life or culture. In somewhat different words, ideologies are the integrated assertions, theories and aims that constitute a sociopolitical program, e.g., Marxism or some economic and political variant. Socialism is best illustrated by a secular society in which the state owns all productive assets and there is no private property. Collectively we refer to such idologies as Liberalism.

A conservative (or a libertarian) would tell you that society cannot be made (forced) to fit some abstract scheme dreamed up by this or that thinker, and attempts to make it do so have always failed. An ideology is not a naturally occurring event, but an unnatural order applied to individuals of a collective membership, in this case, citizens of the United States.

Conservatism, in contrast to liberalism, is a philosophy as opposed to an ideology. The philosophy is to preserve what is established, which is based on evolved tradition and social stability, and which relies on the best of culture that has been historically successful. Conservatives do not embrace any ideology. They reject all ideologies. A conservative individual is less likely to experiment, avoids abrupt change, and is typically cautious and discreet.

Democrats and Muslims, Not Much Difference

advantageterrorists.jpg

Democrats and Muslims, Not Much Difference - which may explain the candidacy of Barack Hussein Obama

History reveals an important but unfortunate truth. During every war waged by a democratic society, members of the media and political opponents of the existing government have been quick to portray on-going military actions to deconstruct the nation’s sworn enemies as either (1), tactical mistakes causing unnecessary collateral damage, or (2), another example of brutal atrocities against peace-loving peoples and the rest of humanity – or both. Judging from the current Congressional and Main Stream Media antics, the 21st Century is off to an inauspicious start.

The Truth Simply Is (2005)

Our duty, and our daily task as American citizens, is to shape the larger affairs of state by making our influence felt as widely as possible in the halls of our state legislature and Congress.

If you were to get on a bus with many other passengers, one has to hope you care where you’re going? Would you prefer at least a general consensus of the destination? Is any bus, going anywhere, acceptable to you? Would it better for you to be heard and influence the destination than be “taken for a ride?” The destination of America is no less important.

Presidents come and go, but Congress and the Supreme Court endures.

Global Warming: Neurosis or Psychosis?

Global Warming as Mass Neurosis

Last week marked the 20th anniversary of the mass hysteria phenomenon known as global warming. Much of the science has since been discredited. Now it's time for political scientists, theologians and psychiatrists to weigh in.

What, discredited? Thousands of scientists insist otherwise, none more noisily than NASA's Jim Hansen, who first banged the gong with his June 23, 1988, congressional testimony (delivered with all the modesty of "99% confidence").

But mother nature has opinions of her own. NASA now begrudgingly confirms that the hottest year on record in the continental 48 was not 1998, as previously believed, but 1934, and that six of the 10 hottest years since 1880 antedate 1954. Data from 3,000 scientific robots in the world's oceans show there has been slight cooling in the past five years, never mind that "80% to 90% of global warming involves heating up ocean waters," according to a report by NPR's Richard Harris.

Liberals are not ignorant

3 Ways to Lower Gas Prices

Liberals are not ignorant, just anti-American – but that’s speculating. Neoconservatives, i.e., liberals who hold relatively few conservative views, such as Newt Gingrich, are simply badly uninformed about some of the issues they publicly address. Because they call themselves conservatives, but in reality are not, conservatives tend to listen to them. As a result, neoconservatives often get elected with the conservative vote. Unfortunately, while well intentioned in many cases, liberals disguised as conservatives do a lot of harm due to their profound ignorance on many subjects. Senator John McCain and President George W. Bush are two prime examples that will resonate in history and folklore forever.

Why is this important? You’ve had questions about rising energy prices, and record oil profits have been brought into question. You've listened to what the politicians and main-stream-media are telling you. You know intuitively that their commentary is sound – all sound. So, what is the truth? First of all, not attempting to be profound, the truth simply is.

It’s Up To You

nerocover.jpg

Is it just me … Or somewhere in the Bush Administration and Congress, has the word has gone out that it is okay to consider taking action that will harm the United States of America by intentionally restricting long term energy needs? I apologize. That’s probably not as inclusive as it should be. Congress, government agencies and state legislatures have been pursuing anti-American goals that excessively tax, deny or limit energy to American consumers and manufacturing for decades.

As an example, not long ago, the Department of the Interior (DOI) was “priming the pump” of public disinformation by proposing to add polar bears to the ever growing list of “endangered species.” You probably remember hearing something about it. The first thing you and I were NOT told was that the demise of the polar bears was unrelated to their current, robust and thriving numbers. The hypothetical DOI polar bear panic came from nothing more than another computer model projection, not unlike the illegitimate genesis of global warming.

This new polar bear computer model was fed suppositions about the environment for the next 50 years. And because it was based on the bias of the model’s developer, not science that could be replicated in a laboratory environment, predictably the data fed to the computer concluded that, in 50 years, polar bears MIGHT become endangered.

It worked for global warming! The fools bought into it. Why not try again?

Slavery has Not been Abolished

A young woman was about to finish her first year of college. Like so many others her age, she considered herself to be a liberal Democrat and very much in favor of 'the redistribution of wealth’. She was deeply ashamed that her father had always been a staunch Republican, a feeling she openly expressed. Based on the academic lectures that she’d participated in, and the occasional chat with her professors, she felt that her father harbored an evil, profoundly selfish desire to keep what he thought should be his.

One day she found herself challenging her father’s opposition to higher taxes on the ‘rich’, the need for more government and expanded welfare programs. The self-professed objectivity proclaimed by her professors had to be the truth and she indicated so to her father.

Delusions of Adequacy

The U.S. House of Representatives reached rock bottom on February 27, 2008 and started to dig. They voted to raise the price of gasoline at the pump. That’s right, they voted to raise the price of gasoline. Our “elected representatives,” led by Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, passed H.R. 5351 (House Roll Call No. 84, 110th Congress, 2nd Session). This is a Bill that will jack UP the price of gasoline because Congress has foolishly decided in a socialist pique of retaliation to impose an $18 BILLION punitive tax – a tax INCREASE on oil companies - a tax that will simply be passed on to the American consumer at the pumps. That tax increase has nine zeros after the number 18.

While the tax would be levied against the oil companies, the tax will be levied by the oil companies against us at the pumps. We, citizens and aliens alike, are going to have to pay for every dime of the tax increase, 18 billion dollars.

For what possible reason would Democrats do this? Spite? To destroy the United States economy? Or was it a page out of Hugo Chavez’s play book, i.e., the first steps to nationalize what remains of the energy industry that hasn’t already fled to foreign shores?

If taxing Americans more for their energy consumption was not bad enough, energy they need to get to jobs, education, grocery supplies, to heat their homes, and to produce goods and services (the foundation of what remains of our economy), these anti-American treasonous malcontents, including Representative Harry Mitchell, voted to exempt Hugo Chavez’s oil company, CITGO, from the tax increase in the same bill.

You read that correctly.

Do Elephants Have Long Memories?

B&A.jpg
2006 mid-term congressional elections

I don't usually like heartwarming stories, but this one is truly interesting... and it contains an important message for political incumbents and future candidates seeking political office.

In 1986, Mkele Mbembe was on holiday in Kenya after graduating from Northwestern University. On a hike through the bush, he came across a young bull elephant standing with one leg raised in the air. The elephant seemed distressed, so Mbembe approached it very carefully. He got down on one knee and inspected the elephant's foot and found a large piece of wood deeply embedded in it. As carefully and as gently as he could, Mbembe worked the wood out with his hunting knife, after which the elephant gingerly put down its foot.

The elephant turned to face the man, and with a rather curious look on its face, stared at him for several tense moments. Mbembe stood frozen, thinking of nothing else but being trampled. Eventually the elephant trumpeted loudly, turned, and walked away. Mbembe never forgot that elephant or the events of that day.

Is the SAVE Act an Act of 3-card Monte?

As a retired veteran of the ongoing Immigration Wars who resides on the outskirts of one of our nation's migrant capitals, I was surprised by an email newsletter I received from the typically excellent Eagle Forum dated December 6th, 2007 entitled “Support Builds for Pro-Enforcement Immigration Bill,” (eagleforum.org).

Subsequently I received another email from NumbersUSA, similar in sentiment. Their emails suggested that citizens should contact their elected representatives and encourage them to support the SAVE Act.

On January 4th, I received still another well-written article published at two Internet sources (familysecuritymatters.org and Aim.org), by author Sher Zieve regarding “Congress Shirking Its Duty in Border Control Meltdown.” At the end of this excellent article, Sher Zieve concluded with the afterthought that the SAVE Act (Secure America with Verification and Enforcement) “… may actually be our last hope. Take a look at it and get involved. It may very well be your last hope, too.”

Last hope? Or looking a little deeper, maybe the last nail in our coffin?

Why does, ‘Who is an American?’ mean nothing?

WTC.jpg

Remembering September 11th, 2001

Take yourself back to September 11th, 2001 and recall where you were at 9 am on that fateful morning. Look at the photograph above and reflect on what you were told or heard that brought you to a television screen. Do you remember your emotions as you watched in stunned disbelief with the rest of America as events unfolded.

topNews.jpg

Do you remember seeing people jump from the tower’s windows to certain death, and the north side of the Pentagon in flames? Do you remember the legion of rescue workers doing anything possible in Washington, D.C. and New York to render aid with no expectation of reward other than knowing they were saving lives - and more often than not giving their own? Do you remember the brave souls, those American patriots that gave their lives heroically in Pennsylvania, in the finest traditions of United States citizenship, to protect many more American citizens from certain death? They willingly made the ultimate sacrifice as honorably as our soldiers who would follow in the War on Terror. First one tower, and then the second tower collapsed, extinguishing the lives of thousands of intelligent, talented, and dedicated human beings.

Do you remember feeling an empty disbelief followed by a visceral disgust that there could be an organized group of defective human beings called "Muslims" willing to commit an atrocity of this magnitude on innocent people? Slowly, most Americans came to realize they had been at war for decades with a cult called Islam that claimed the legitimacy of a religion.

For a short period of time, during “the Innocent Days,” there were only patriots - no liberals or conservatives, no Democrats or Republicans, no Christians, Jews or Agnostics. Who was President of the United States or Mayor of New York was not important. Who was an American meant everything.

In the weeks that followed, three prominent types of Americans emerged from that fateful day. One had a prideful resolve, not felt since Pearl Harbor, demonstrated both in the midst of the crisis and during the aftermath. They were called, "Americans."

NYC.jpg

Another type immediately began to disgrace their citizenship by seeking ways to profit, blame, cast doubt, stir unrest and project guilt for the attack onto the current or a previous Administration, and various United States corporations. To this day, collectively they are called "liberals" or "Democrats," interchangably. A third group, distinct from the "Americans" and "liberals," worked tirelessly following September 11th, 2001. Their goal was to exploit the attack on the United States for personal gain. They are what we call, "politicians."

How will September 11th, 2007 be remembered? Consider the alternatives.

Cotton-Pickin' Liberals

barrel.gif

Democrats have been calling Republicans "the party of the rich" for half-a-century now. True conservatives would normally have taken that as a profound compliment. Unfortunately, the majority of Republicans in the 2004 Congress were wolves in sheep’s clothing and had no idea how to profit from their election windfall. After all, they were liberals - not conservatives. As a result, many Republicans were unceremoniously asked to go home (sent packing) in 2006. The national elections in November, 2008 will likely see even more repudiation of faux political conservatives. When the time comes that terms expire, Arizona Senators John McCain and Jon Kyl will never be elected again to public office, unless illegal aliens have something to say about it.

Undaunted, the Republican National Committee (RNC) continues to send out surveys. The latest was entitled "Ask America, 2007 Nationwide Policy Survey." The document was boldly marked "CONFIDENTIAL DOCUMENT," implying that it contained something of special importance or national intelligence suitable for the New York Times to share it with our nation's enemies. The survey was inscribed with an important-looking registration number "P7G31105-F33178835" and was due September 1, 2007. Of course, cash contributions were solicited. Detailed instructions on the cover page read, "Return the Survey along with your most generous contribution in the envelope provided."

After 55 questions, I returned my survey annotated, in the small space of only three lines that were provided for comments, "No fence, no dollars, no votes."

Was that too subtle?

Jobs - The American Future

EconConfModel.gif

In the recent article, "Jobs - Have They Become the American Myth?", we learned that the expense of holding inventory is being avoided by most businesses - and employees in the United States, unlike China and India, have become inventory. Why is this important? Because, on the other side of the globe are China, India and other emerging nations. Most Americans mistakenly think their economic situation is unrelated to China. Americans should be asking, “How do China and India figure as a serious competitors in the world economy and how does that affect me?”

China.jpg

China is both a serious and a potentially dangerous competitor. The most important economic reason is that China has millions and millions of laborers. Almost half of its 300+ million farmers are under-employed labor, not actually needed to work the land, according to the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture. There are around 80+ million more redundant workers in government and government enterprises, not to mention another 100+ million squatting in the coastal regions looking for work, all trying to survive. And what about the soon-to-be employable Chinese youth? A quarter of the Chinese population is under the age of fifteen, representing another 500-million new workers waiting in the wings. None of this discussion of China takes into account the human resources of India and other emerging nations.

The Free Haircuts Have To Stop

Your money.jpg

On Monday morning, a florist went to a neighborhood barber for a haircut. After the cut he asked about his bill and the barber replied: "I'm sorry, I can’t accept money from you; I'm doing community service this week." The florist was pleasantly surprised and left the shop. Tuesday morning when the barber opened for business, there was a thank you card from the florist and an attractive flower arrangement waiting for him at the door.

Later on Tuesday, a police officer came in for a haircut during a lunch break. When he attempted to pay, the barber again replied: "I'm sorry, I can’t accept money from you; I'm doing community service this week." The officer was appreciative and left the shop. On Wednesday morning when the barber opened up, he found another thank you card and a dozen donuts waiting for him at his door.

Firearms and Crime

A6.JPG

A new report by criminologists Prof. Don Kates of the United States, and Prof. Gary Mauser of Canada, once again demonstrates conclusively that the rate of firearms ownership is irrelevant to the rate of homicide and violent crime. The report should be required reading for uninformed citizens, especially reporters, editorial writers and well-intended but otherwise clueless elected representatives.

It is an important point to make at the outset of any discussion of gun control that there are no peer-reviewed academic or criminologist studies (zero) which conclude that there is a direct correlation between gun ownership and violent crime. People tend to believe what they want to believe, regardless of facts, particularly if they have ulterior motives or are driven by an ideology based on emotions rather than facts.

Liberalism is at the black end of the spectrum of liberty

file002.gif
Liberals at work on the U.S. Constitution

Liberalism is at the black end of the spectrum of liberty.
“Failed” Government Wars, Part 4

History teaches us everything we need to know about starting government wars. It could be the overstatement of the 21st Century to claim that the U.S. government has been successful in any cultural or economic "war." Cultural battlegrounds in the 20th and 21st Century have included abortion, affirmative action, creation-evolution, intelligent design, censorship, video games, violence in the media and entertainment industries, capital punishment, drugs, alcohol impairment, English only, family values, feminism, reproductive rights, homosexuality, lesbian and gay rights, gay marriage, identity politics, equal opportunity, war in general and Afghanistan and Iraq in particular, Abu Ghraib, interrogation vs. torture, prisoner abuse, telephone surveillance, illegal alien migration, media bias, release/sale of classified information, sale of technology for political funding, treason, absolutism vs. relativism, civil rights vs. Patriot Act, invasion of privacy vs. right to privacy, failure of the justice system, child physical and sexual abuse, political correctness, race, racism, variations in race intelligence, right to die, euthanasia, secularism, collectivism vs. individualism, egalitarianism, public displays of the Ten Commandments, separation of church and state, freedom of religion, freedom of speech, gun control, separation of church and state, school and public prayer, sexual revolution, sex education, abstinence, voter fraud, taxpayer funding of medical research (HIV and embryonic stem cell), smoking, terrorism, terrorist surveillance, trans-humanism, price gouging vs. free market, global warming, corruption in politics, social security, Medicare, birth control and women in combat.

These are but a few examples and there are many more.

Failed Culture Wars

Cheap Labor.jpg

“Failed” Culture Wars

(On illegal migration, drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, illiteracy, obesity, crime, poverty, terror, corruption, pornography, trade, equal opportunity, gender equality, sexual mores, domestic violence, guns, environmental stewardship, ignorance, healthcare, child abuse, bigotry and most recently nation building).

The victim was first the Rule of Law and subsequently the United States of America.

Let's single out just one war and look at the problems of illegal alien migration for a moment. Let’s also try to do our examination objectively and somewhat differently from most widely held perspectives.

Unemployment (to the extent one can believe government statistics) is at or near its lowest level in decades, even after taking into consideration the 12, 20 or 40 million illegal aliens who are gainfully employed in the United States, part- or full-time. If the United States can employ everyone who ‘wants’ to work (citizens plus legal and illegal aliens), there is obviously a huge market demand for labor, both skilled and unskilled, and to some extent educated.

Like it or not, disturbing or not, there is also an incredible demand for labor with less educational achievement and fewer expectations. We’re talking about “cheap labor.” For analytical purposes, ethnic origin, education and citizenship are irrelevant in the discussion of cheap labor because when you need a job done, one that requires menial labor, it is the job that is your focus, not the person or their education, or even their ability to speak English. If the only workers available to you are both willing and motivated to work, and in most cases grateful for the work, and all you can do is communicate with hand-signals, that’s good enough.

Islam is not an Urban Legend

Islam2.JPG

Most urban legends are framed as stories, often with plots and characters. The compelling nature of the story and its elements of mystery, horror, fear, or humor are part of what makes these tales so attractive. Many legends are presented as warnings or as a cautionary tale, sometimes about horrific situations that might affect or injure a lot of people - if they were true. If one hears such a story, and believes it, a person might feel compelled to warn friends and family.

Many Internet users find unnecessary emails generated by the propagation of urban legends an annoyance, and at the same time consider the sender to be foolish, having been suckered by the story.

Well, Islam is not an urban legend.

Egalitarianism, uber alles

Letter to Joe Crummy (KFYI 550 AM)
Phoenix, Arizona
February 18, 2006

Joe, I listened intently to your radio broadcast Friday afternoon, February 16th and thought your opposition points were sincere in regards to the proposed AZ legislation that would restrict political discourse in AZ classrooms. With the same facts that you have, my conclusions are somewhat different. Please indulge me for a moment.

What should be taught in the classroom is the subject material published by the school, in the course catalog, expected by the student, and not material solely chosen by the instructor. Isn’t that a novel concept!

Sirens of Liberalism

englehart.jpg

I've come to understand, and it took longer than it should have because it's incredulous, that Democrats truly (sincerely) believe the three branches of American government are the Democratic Party, the Republican Party, and the liberal courts. It seems clear to me after years of observation, and too many conversations with devout socialists (who aspire to mind-numbing levels of egalitarianism), that Democrats see issues in a single-minded framework, i.e., an attempt by one branch (Republicans) to usurp the powers of another branch (the liberal courts), and so, see the Democratic Party's role as properly protecting the Constitution.

How Could 50 States Be Wrong?

America's founders did not intend for there to be a separation of God (church) and state, as liberalism ideologues, federal courts, the main stream media, Hollywood and the ACLU falsely proclaim. To believe otherwise ignores the evidence shown by the fact that all 50 states acknowledge God in their state constitutions. Believe what you will. Facts simply are, and always will be, the essence of the truth-teller.

Alabama 1901, Preamble.
We the people of the State of Alabama, invoking the favor and guidance of Almighty God, do ordain and establish the following Constitution ...

Alaska 1956, Preamble.
We, the people of Alaska, grateful to God and to those who founded our nation and pioneered this great land …

Arizona 1911, Preamble.
We, the people of the State of Arizona, grateful to Almighty God for our liberties, do ordain this Constitution...

Arkansas 1874, Preamble.
We, the people of the State of Arkansas, grateful to Almighty God for the privilege of choosing our own form of government ...

We, the People of the State of California, grateful to Almighty God for our freedom …

The Difference between Disappointing and Dangerous

Victory.JPG

Thomas Sowell recently commented, “The Republicans are disappointing and the Democrats are dangerous.” The first assertion, an accurate commentary on all forms of liberalism, has been addressed in a previous posting entitled, “How Would a Patriot Act?” Today, let’s direct our thoughts to his second insight, “Democrats are dangerous.”

The election results produced the unexpected defeat of several prominent neo- and paleo-conservative Republicans in Congress (men who were not really conservatives, just marginally less liberal than Democrats), most notably J.D. Hayworth of Arizona, Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania, George Allen of Virginia and Conrad Burns of Montana. Now is as good a time as any to turn our attention to the Democratic Party’s leadership. Given as many facts as possible, and historical propensities, are Democrats really as dangerous as they were portrayed in the weeks prior to the election? If not, the logical conclusion would be that the caterwauling of the losers is only self-serving and a moot issue as they try to reinvent themselves.

Which Direction is the Bus Traveling?

Bus.jpg

Why and how did the Republican Party leadership fail in the 2006 Mid-term elections? That question will be debated in political science classrooms for decades. Conservatives know intuitively, but most liberal Republicans have not a clue. The Frist reason is simple, there are not five conservatives in all of Congress. Unfortunately, there will be even fewer conservatives in Congress tomorrow, which means Americans will have to fend off the Democratic Party's extreme socialist (collectivist) agenda in the near term.

For the strangest of reasons, conservative Republicans have felt obligated for years to vote for at least one of the two candidates on a ballot, even if both were liberal and neither reflected their views, instead of choosing "none of the above" when appropriate. Badgered incessantly by the Republican National Committee, threatening their worst fears of tax increases, political correctness, and runaway income redistribution, conservatives were fed and many bellieved that Democrats were somehow the epitome of evil and so much worse than liberal Republicans. Well, they were, until Republicans became ideologically indistinguishable from Democrats. Conservatives, citizens with value systems, were told that If Republicans were not elected, it would be their fault and the guilt would be theirs. The RNC knows guilt and loyalty are profound motivators to a conservative, and the last six years has taught conservatives a bitter lesson - conservatives were an easy "mark."

So, how do you convey in the most simple terms what happened in the elections - a metaphor or a parable maybe?

Imagine that the Republican Party’s liberal leadership has been looking at the above picture since 1994, trying to figure out in which direction the bus is traveling. They honestly couldn't tell. You wouldn’t think it would be so difficult. It is not a trick question. It's not hard to understand, unless you are a liberal, and the Republican Party had become very liberal. Not having core values, liberal Republicans administered the nation from Congress, redistributed more and more tax revenues, made themselves fabuously wealthy from campaign contributions, and made no effort to lead the nation. How can you lead without core values?

So, which direction is the bus traveling?

The Republican Defeat of 2006

whirlwind.gif

It was difficult to listen to prominent Republicans in advance of the election, probably fully aware of what was coming, attempt to shift the blame to an uninformed electorate for their developing defeat at the polls - trying desperately to shame conservatives into voting. Personages such as Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Newt Gingrich and John O’Neill expressed their views publicly that conservatives clearly didn’t understand what was at stake.

What was at stake? Was it a Republican congressman’s personal loss of privilege and power? Was it the narrow interests of the Republican Party? Having done so little to meet the expectations of most citizens, the Republican Party’s focus was hardly the welfare of the United States. How could any Republican claim otherwise having frittered away six years and delivered only runaway debt, rampant socialism and laughable national security on open borders? Arguably, liberal Republicans (as opposed to conservative Republicans and Libertarians) have done more harm to liberty and the social fabric of our nation than 50 years of Democratic Party control.

How Would a Patriot Act?

Open Letter to Rush Limbaugh (and John O'Neill)
Rush Limbaugh.gif

I am proudly one of six consecutive generations of United States servicemen and women dating from the Spanish-American War. The youngest of our family is currently serving in Iraq. Why do I tell you this? For all that is precious in America, I ask to be permitted a brief moment to be clearly heard by you in the current national wilderness of cultural insanity.

Mr. Limbaugh, you've asked openly, “Why aren’t conservatives listening to me?” Plain speaking and straight shooting, typical of conservatives, we believe you are wrong. Think of fifteen pejorative adjectives; string them together and then append the word “wrong” to gauge the depth of conservative disaffection with last week's radio performance.

Mr. Limbaugh, in moments of candor, I suspect you would admit that you no longer live on the same streets that we do, nor walk in the same shoes we do. Nor do Congressmen. Nor do Governors. You have rightfully earned and profoundly deserve the elevated social status you enjoy. Your success and lifestyle does many positive and a few negative things for you. Two that are negative, but important are: (1) Your success relieves you of many mundane concerns most citizens must contend with, and (2), It also deprives you of contemporaneous knowledge of life in grass-roots America, other than fond memories from younger days.

Six Weeks ‘Till the Inevitable

If anybody you know is asleep in the back seat of the car, you might want to wake them. It’s probable they’ve never seen an accident like this one is going to be.

After a few weeks in their home districts, hastily making campaign infomercials which you are probably already watching, our elected representatives have returned to Washington, D.C. Congress once again is in session. Our Congressmen have no doubts and no misunderstandings. They say they understand the will of the people when it comes to illegal immigration and claim they are ready to do the people’s business. Or so a reasonable person would think. Their first order of business was to announce there will be no business done in this session of Congress, particularly on the critically important issues of border security, invasion of illegal aliens, rampant property and violent crime, document fraud, chain migration, anchor babies, and obscene misuse of public benefits. Can you feel any sense of alarm in Congress over the welfare of American citizens, or is their inaction more likely one of self preservation?

Jon Kyl Is An Open-Borders Advocate

I suspect your first reaction is denial that Jon Kyl is an open-borders advocate. If you don’t believe me, read it for yourself – get the facts. You should pride yourself in forming your own conclusions from facts. The proposed Cornyn-Kyl legislation pending in the U.S. Senate has many good features that include badly needed revisions of current law that would reduce immigration abuses. However, buried in the middle of this vast bill is Title V, which creates a new "Nonimmigrant Temporary Worker Category.” That's a form of subterfuge, intentional misdirection, dishonest slight-of-hand, or a euphemism depending on your point of view for giving amnesty to millions of illegal aliens already in the United States, plus creating a "guest worker" status both for them and for millions more aliens who will be invited into our country to take U.S. jobs.

Amnesty means a general pardon for offenses against the government. The Cornyn-Kyl bill includes no punishment whatsoever for the crimes committed by illegal aliens, by makers and users of fraudulent documents, or by employers who hire the cheap labor.

We Do Not Agree

towel.jpg

The American Family Association (AFA) recently took national umbrage to statements made by Rosie O’Donnell on ABC programming, “The View.” Rosie O'Donnell expressed her views that "radical Christians" were no different than murderous radical Muslims, i.e., no different from the radical Muslims who piloted hijacked jetliners into New York's Twin Towers, no different from the radical Muslims who chop off the heads of individuals, and no different from radical Muslims who bomb innocent men, women and children in suicide attacks. The AFA demanded an immediate public apology from ABC and a reprimand of Rosie O'Donnell. We don't agree. What are your views?

There is no such thing as Government Money

There is no such thing as government money - only taxpayer’s money. This is the second in a series that addresses the fiduciary legacy of Congress, the state of the federal budget and the accumulated national debt. The first was "What is a Billion."

After collecting tax revenues from 6 million businesses and the top 50% of American-citizen wage earners, the Congress last year spent a peacetime-record (adjusted for inflation) of $23,760 per household, arguably $20,000 more per household than strictly authorized by the U.S. Constitution – but hey, liberals claim it’s a living Constitution, a roadmap. No longer is the U.S. Constitution a contract with and between Americans. To a liberal in Congress, reality is an illusion that only occurs due to the lack of tax revenue – a situation easily rectified.

Where does the money come from that Congress spends?

What is a Billion?

Liberty.jpg

The next time you hear liberal politicians such as Senator John McCain and other members of the Democratic Party use the word "billion" in casual conversation, think about their priorities. Would you consider yourself one of Senator John McCain’s top priorities?

For most people, a billion is a difficult number to comprehend. Congressmen don’t give it much thought either. Why not put that number into some perspective?

A. One billion seconds ago - it was 1959.
B. One billion minutes ago - Jesus was alive.
C. One billion hours ago - our human ancestors were living in the Stone Age.
D. One billion days ago – no human walked on the earth on two feet.
E. At the rate our government is spending, a billion U.S. dollars ago was just 8 hours and 20 minutes.

While this thought is fresh in your mind, take a look at New Orleans. It represents only one of many thousands of recent examples of profligate spending by Congress.

Louisiana Senator, Mary Landrieu (D), asked the Congress of the United States for 250 BILLION dollars to rebuild New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. Before all is said and done, whether directly to the States of Louisiana and Mississippi, or through the Army Corps of Engineers, most of that tax money will find its way to the Gulf Coast.

Dramatic growth slowdown looming for the US economy?

0823ecri.gif

It may be too early to say the Weekly Leading Index (WLI) is pointing toward a recession because the downturn in growth is supposed to be "persistent, pronounced, and pervasive" to indicate a recession is coming. But this is what the early warning signs would look like. Looking closely, you can see both the beginnings of a downward trend and an apparent acceleration of the downward trend. The numbers give every appearance of being an especially significant downturn. One of the seven components of the Weekly Leading Index is equity prices, which conventional wisdom tells us are a great leading economic indicator. When the WLI goes down while equities are going higher, does the divergence tell you something big could be developing. If you think you have a particularly good insight, one way or the other, this would be a good time to position yourself financially.

Be Careful Who and What You Vote For

Prayer.jpg
While walking down the street one day a U.S. Senator was tragically hit by a truck and died. His soul arrived in heaven and was met by St. Peter at the entrance. (If you’re of a secular persuasion, bear with this story for a minute as the point is worthwhile.)

"Welcome to heaven," said St. Peter. "Before you settle in, it seems there is a small problem. We seldom see a high official around these parts, so we're not quite sure what to do with you. Most of your elite peers have chosen to go elsewhere."

"No problem. Just let me in, I'm sure we can work something out." said the Senator.

"Well, I'd like to, but I have orders from higher up. What we’ve decided to do is have you spend one day in Hell and one in Heaven. Then you can choose where to spend eternity."

Do Car Sales Indicate An Approaching Recession?

Car-Sales-chart.jpg

If sales by new-car dealers are down by two percent or more over 12 months, compared to the 12 previous months and adjusted for inflation, then a recession is either underway or set to begin within a few months. The figure stood at minus 2.4 percent when June 2006 sales figures were released by the Census Bureau. The indicator has correctly called five recessions since 1968, and has never warned of a recession that did not occur, according to an analysis by The New York Times.

So, Where Do We Stand?

Israel.jpg
So, Where Do We Stand?

I always like it when I don’t have to read all the way to the last paragraph to get to the bottom line, so today we begin with the bottom line – actually a number of them covering everything from the Middle East to the Congressional elections in November, 2006.

Beginning with the Middle East, it seems clear that the Hezbollah offensive recently staged in Lebanon for the entertainment of the Muslim ummah (worldwide community) had the principal goal of re-establishing a pro-Syrian-Iranian regime in Lebanon. The Iranian-Syrian strategy to construct a third wing to the Tehran-Damascus axis, a third wing which successfully encloses Israel with hostile Islamic military and terrorist forces, was an unmitigated success.

Israel’s retaliation for Hezbollah’s cross-border-incursion and the kidnapping of two Israeli soldiers and killing eight others (responding to the bait) ended once again in Israel’s portrayal as the aggressor. Israel has withdrawn from Lebanon, a tentative one-sided compliance with a unanimous anti-semitic United Nations resolution - but without recovery of their missing soldiers and without maintaining control of the ground for which they shed considerable Israeli blood.

Predictably, Iran and Syria will not be held accountable for the most recent conflict and will pay no price for their sponsored aggression.

Its Scope was Ruthlessly Ambitious

Religion of Peace.jpg

MSNBC aired on August 10th a news analysis published by the Associated Press (AP) entitled, “Thwarted plot may have been ‘the Big One.’” That AP story began, “Its scope was ruthlessly ambitious, causing destruction officials say would have been “unimaginable.” Now, the rest of the story.

The foiled plot was apparently a plan to destroy, with liquid explosives carried in hand luggage, ten or more international commercial passenger aircraft in flight, all bound from the United Kingdom to the United States. United, American and Continental Airlines were targeted and the flights were scheduled to be in the air at approximately the same time. Each aircraft would have been transporting hundreds of passengers.

The plotters, Muslims who ranged in age from 17 to 35, planned to use false-bottomed sports drink bottles to bring the liquid explosives on board. The terrorists had intended to combine the separated liquids mid-flight to create an explosive solution. The liquid to be used was likely a peroxide-based solution, similar in appearance to water or liquid eyeglass lens cleaner, which could have been detonated by an electronic device as simple as a disposable camera or a portable digital music player.

Counterterrorism officials speculated that the plot not only bore the fingerprints of al-Qaida, but may have been “the Big One” planned for the anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001. According to the AP article, 24 people (predominantly Pakistani Muslim), were arrested and jailed and five remain at large. Terror threat levels were raised in the United States to their highest levels and airport security procedures intensified. Hundreds of flights were canceled worldwide. Dozens of people, possibly as many as 50, could be involved in the plot.

The magnitude of this attack, had it been successful, would have been huge. The terrorist scheme had the classic al-Qaida signature of a well coordinated series of simultaneous attacks. U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff reinforced those sentiments, saying the attack “… was sophisticated. It had a lot of members and it was international in scope.” For the past several days, the FBI has feverishly looked for any potential ties to terrorists in the U.S., but hasn’t found any.

The Battle for United States National Sovereignty and Continued Independence

USA.gif

Admittedly I am not a fan of CNN, however I have acquired a growing admiration of Lou Dobbs, who may be the only member of the mainstream media who has spoken out in defense of United States independence. What follows is a link to Lou Dobbs’ June 25th broadcast in which he clearly questions the Bush Administration's willingness to abandon the sovereignty of the United States of America.

Please begin this article by watching this Lou Dobbs (CNN) film clip:

It would appear that with unmitigated collusion, and almost complete unanimity, the United States Congress is supporting President Bush’s efforts to merge the United States into a single North American Union government with Canada and Mexico.

A Con-Job on the American People

Immigration.JPG

The United States Senate, including most of the Republican leadership, voted in May to build a border security fence, but now oppose funding it. "I voted for it before I voted against it." We've heard that before. It was as rediculous in 2004 as it is now. Democrats were joined by 28 Republicans (including Senators John McCain and his disciple Jon Kyl) in opposing the Sessions amendment to the Homeland Security Appropriations Act which would have funded construction. Senators Ben Nelson of Nebraska and Thomas R. Carper of Delaware were the only two Democrats who voted for funding the fence.

"We do a lot of talking. We do a lot of legislating," said Sen. Jeff Sessions, the Alabama Republican whose amendment to fund the fence was killed on a 71-29 vote. "The things we do often sound very good, but we never quite get there," he told the Washington Times.

The End Times

Statue%20of%20Liberty-728428.jpg

About the time our original 13 states adopted their new constitution in 1787, Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor at the University of Edinburgh, had this to say about the fall of the Athenian Republic some 2,000 years prior:

"A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship."

A Mother's Love

flag5.JPG
A Mother's Love

As she boarded the flight to Greensboro, North Carolina she could not help but notice the young Marine sitting in the first row of the First Class seating. He was in his dress uniform and had the seriousness of a warrior but innocent look of youth.

As she walked by, she touched his shoulder and quietly thanked him for his service. He heard her but seemed to take a moment to return from his own thoughts. She was several seats farther down the aisle when she heard him say, “Thank you Ma'am.”

Ten minutes outside Greensboro the pilot came over the public address system and, with what sounded like a catch in his voice, announced that Flight #720 was returning the body of Lance Corporal Kevin Adam Lucas (age 20) to his home in Greensboro, North Carolina. Lance Corporal Lucas had been killed several days earlier in Iraq. His body was being escorted home by the young Marine.

The plane was very still as each person on board seemed to struggle with the announcement. She could not help but think of her own son scheduled to depart for Iraq in several months, her own intense love for her country and the bond between a mother and her only son.

She called on God and prayed for her son’s safe return home. She gave her thanks and gratitude and prayed for the young soldier and his family who had made the ultimate sacrifice for our Country. She prayed for all the men and women serving in the United States Armed Forces.

This 4th of July take a moment and give thanks for the many brave soldiers and their families – the most selfless of all Americans - and remember that freedom is not free.

Commissar Napolitano

Arizona.JPG
A new Arizona state record for the number of vetoes by the Governor has been set.

Governor Janet Napolitano set a new state record (weeks ago) for the number of vetoes by any previous governor, eclipsing what was considered the spectacular feat of Governor Bruce Babbitt. Special recognition is well deserved because Governor Napolitano accomplished it in less than one term in office. Governor Babbitt needed two terms to reach the same milestone. National recognition by the Democratic Party and the main stream media would seem to be in order and a celebration is likely in the planning stages.

Does the term “obstruction” come to mind, as we have witnessed in Congress, or as my neighbor said, “is she truly evil?” Regardless of how one characterizes this virtuoso veto performance, Arizona residents are clearly not residing in a state that enjoys a truly representative democracy.
